sorry for my ignorance, but can you give me a pointer on what the proper 
way is to do that?

I built a package from source with the provided debian dir and it worked 
out nicely with the only exception of [1] (for which I'd make a patch to 
svn version to include if it wasn't unnecessary according to you). 
Wouldn't it be convenient to provide at least in pkg/debian subdir a 
fixed debian dir from downstream?
